The technical developments made by Mr. Honavar cover a wide spectrum of vital industrial sectors, which are of prime importance to the national economy.

 

In appreciation of his contribution as spelled out hereinabove Mr. Honavar was awarded :

l

In 1979 : The Silver Medallion of "Sir Misra Memorial Lecture," by the Indian Institute of Welding.

l

In 1983 : The scroll of Honour in Silver Casket by the Indian Institute of Welding, Tiruchirapalli Branch.

l

In 1991 : "Indore Ratna" Award by the Honourable vice President of India, Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma.

Mr. Honavar contributed to the advancement of Welding Technology in India through :

1.

The professional body viz. Indian Institute of Welding, as a member of Governing Council for several years and as its Vice President for two years.

2.

Presentations of numerous technical and research papers at national seminars.

3.

Bureau of Indian Standards, as the Chairman of MTD11 for the national standards in Welding.

 

Many of his technical papers have become reference documents for the younger generation. Some of these are:

"Rutile-coated Vs Basic-coated Stainless Steel Electrodes," presented in 1975.

"Indigenous Electrodes and Welding for Low Temperature Applications," presented in 1976.

"Indian Welding Electrode Industry-Past, Present and Future" - Sir L. P. Misra Memorial Lecture, delivered in 1979.

4. "Role of Mn and N in corrosion and fissuring behaviour of Ferrite-Free 18-8-Mo Stainless Steel Weld Metals", presented in 1980.

"A few impressions of IIW Group technical visit to Japan", presented in 1983.

6. "Present status of Indian Standards in SMAW", presented in 1987.
7.

"Electrodes for welding of Corrosion Resistant Steels-Meeting the New Challenges", presented in 1987.

8.

"Hydrogen in Steel Weldments - a review", presented in 1987.
